Our Staff

Calum Robertson - B.V.Sc (hons)

Calum graduated in 1986 from the University of Queensland. After practicing in the Fairfield/Cabramatta area of Sydney for 2 years, he and Joanne joined many of their classmates on a 3 year working holiday in England. Locuming was alternated with jaunts in the compulsory campervan to the then un-unified Europe – the iron curtain still stood, and Yugoslavia was still, at least on a map, one country!

He returned to Brisbane in 1991, where he managed first the Goodna Veterinary Clinic, and then in 1994 the Moorooka Veterinary Clinic. In 2001, he and Joanne bought the Clayfield Veterinary Clinic.

He enjoys the great variety of pets and people that a general vet practice provides. In particular, he enjoys helping our senior pets live longer and happier lives, and also enjoys the challenges of knee surgery in dogs.

Outside of work, he is a proud Queenslander who follows all sport played with a ball (of any shape!). He also enjoys cycling, fine red wine and his possum-obsessed German Shorthaired Pointer.

Joanne Robertson - B.V.Sc (hons)

Joanne graduated from the University of Queensland in 1986. Her first job was in small animal practice in Sydney’s Western suburbs where she worked for 2 years before heading overseas.

Based in the UK, she enjoyed working at a range of different practices in varied areas whilst also doing a lot of traveling.
Returning to Brisbane in 1991, Joanne commenced working as a veterinary locum but was soon employed in a fulltime position managing a clinic at Camira.

She and Calum met at university and were married in 1988. Their first son, Declan, was born in 1997 and Angus followed in 1998.

They bought Clayfield Veterinary Clinic in 2001. Joanne is now involved in a lot of the administrative aspects of the Clinic, but still thoroughly enjoys the sessions she does consulting at the practice. Like all the vets at the practice, she is AQIS accredited and she also is very active with the Australian Veterinary Association’s People Education Program (petPEP).

She is regularly seen walking Ella, their much loved GSP, around the streets of Clayfield.

Lawrence Cahill - B.Sc (agr), MSc

Lawrence graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in Canada over fifteen years ago. He has a broad experience within veterinary medicine that includes working with species as diverse as Heliconia butterflies to Indian elephants, in both rural and urban settings. His main veterinary interests are small animal internal medicine and nutrition. After working in several countries around the world he has settled in Brisbane. He joined Clayfield Veterinary Clinic in 2003 and became AQIS accredited shortly thereafter. Outside of work he likes to hang out with his dogs, cats and family in Brisbane and Spain. Does anybody know where his accent is from?

Haidee Gray - B.V.Sc (hons)

After graduating from the University of Queensland in 1999, Haidee explored plenty of places and met many interesting animals (and people) along the way.

Australian experiences ranged from Lepto & tick paralysis cases and wildlife in Mackay, to thoroughbreds in the Hunter Valley, out west to Mt Isa, and to the friendly pets & people (and surf) of Coolangatta. Northern hemisphere adventures included treating ferrets in West Yorkshire during snowy winters, donkeys in Morocco at desert souks, and observing the world through vet-coloured glasses - appreciating the anatomical correctness of lion statues in Paris, and noticing the large proportion of un-neutered male cats in Turkey.

Haidee joined CVC in May 2007 and has become very attached to the lovely pets, clients, and staff at Clayfield. In 2007 she gained AQIS accreditation for companion animal exports, and completed a Post-Grad course in Emergency Medicine & Surgery. She particularly enjoys medicine cases.

She lives locally and spends her spare time socialising, enjoying good red wine, listening to live music, and cleaning up after Jack the grumpy (but entertaining) cockatiel.

Amanda - B.Bus(Man) VN

Amanda joined the team at Clayfield Vet in August 2011 as a full time Veterinary Nurse.

She graduated from UQ with a Bachelor of Business (Management) in 1999 and obtained her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing in 2006. She has also studied the Certificate IV in Veterinary Practice Management. Over the past 9 years Amanda has worked in the USA, and also various small animal practices around Brisbane as a head vet nurse and also a practice manager. She has recently worked as an emergency nurse at one of the large emergency hospitals in Brisbane, where she gained invaluable experience in the care of critical patients.

Outside of work Amanda is kept busy with her menagerie of pets – Jasper (Maltese), Lola (Chihuahua), Linus (Devon Rex), and her Eclectus Parrots (Ruby, Mango and Scarlett).

Susan

Susan joined Clayfield Vet in May 2007 and is currently completing the final stages of her Cert IV in Veterinary Nursing. Over the past years, she has dedicated her time and effort to learning as much as she can from the experienced nurses and vets and improving her knowledge and skills in all aspects of veterinary care, from preventative medicine to animal exports to nutrition to surgical monitoring. She and her fiance Benjamin share their home with Susan’s cat, a Burmilla named “Toby” and two exuberant Weimaraners,  “Fergie” and "Nara". Nara is Fergie's daughter, being born in May 2010,  one of seven girl pups in the litter. There are plans to breed Nara in the near future so stay posted!

Michelle

Michelle is the resident Kiwi nurse. After completing a Bachelor of Arts in NZ, she moved to Melbourne, chanced upon a Vet Nursing job and took up study for her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing.

Michelle and her partner moved to Brisbane at the start of the year and love it so much they have just bought a house. This means there is more room for her three cats: two lovely Burmese X Cornish Rex boys and the newest addition - a cute little grey stray.

Boss

Boss came to us as a part of our kitten rescue program and liked it so much, he decided to stay. He has reorganised the clinic to suit his needs, has a particular affection for the surgery heating mats and loves to curl up in any in-tray he can find. If you would like a cat just like him, have a look at our kitten rescue page!
