Seeing the yearly influx of kittens dumped, rescued and surrendered to local organisations, we realised we were in a position to make a small difference. In mid 2008 we started our Kitten Adoption program, our aim being to take litters of kittens to care for until they are at a point when we can re-home them to loving families. We contacted many of the local rescue organisations and foster carers, some of whom were caring for up to 20 kittens at a time and who are very pleased to receive any level of assistance.

The nurses love having the beautiful babies in the clinic to play with and care for and it has given us a new appreciation for what if must be like for the people who care for twice the number with less resources then the clinic has. Over the 12months since we have been running the program, Clayfield Vet Clinic has re-homed over 25 kittens with more to come.

The program aims to promote responsible pet ownership. The kittens are sold for the small cost of $175. This cost covers full vaccination and the kittens are worm and flea free. It also includes desexing of the kittens and microchipping (although it is the responsibility of the new owner to register their new kitten).
